Exodus 22:16
And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her (sex), he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

When we come to Christ we are NEW creatures.  It was common knowledge in the world that sexual intercourse consummates a marriage after the union was approved by the father and mother.  This is where the term "common law" marriage comes from in which a couple dwells together and has a family without the government's authorization.  Such authorization is not necessary with the Lord.  When one comes to Christ and repents, his/her past ignorances and neglect to follow the laws are erased by the blood of the Messiah.  All past acts of fornication, promiscuity and sexual relations are made void therefore one does not have to retrieve their FIRST sexual partner.  However the WORD stipulates that when you come into the truth to serve Christ already being in a relationship you must give that partner the opportunity to ALSO repent by delivering the word to them as it was given to you.  All of this is to keep the family structure in tact and not allow people a WAY OUT of a present relationship in order to pursue a new one...using your being born again as an excuse.

1 Corinthians 7:11-16
11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

12But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

13And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

15But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.  16For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

If a man or woman is not in a relationship upon their coming to Christ they must take heed that from that point (accepting the truth) forward they are accountable to take a spouse according to the law.

1 Corinthians 1:4-10 - " Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away."
